Ok, I'm a 15 year old boy about to start my last year at secondary school. I am worried that my life has no direction, I'm looking for advice due to this.
My main worry is that I am in two minds over what I should do when I go to university, this question needs answering in the next year, so I know what A-Levels I have to take. I would like to do either History, or Pharmaceutical studies.
I would like to study Pharmaceutical studies, as I am very interested in chemistry, and would enjoy doing something like involving it.
However, my favourite subject is History, I am one of the best in my school year, and would love to study History too, if I did I would probably try to become a curator at a museum, or try to get involved in politics. I might teach History, but I don't think I would make a good teacher (I get too annoyed easily)
My current hobby is reading (mostly classic novels) and in future I would love to get into historical wargaming, and/or photography.
What do you think I should do with my life?Need some advice on where my life's heading.?
The key to your question is one you've kind of answered. In other words, you have this first year at least to really take the time to think this over. You can use this time to do a bit more research into the type of jobs associated with both interests, perhaps go to a museum and see if you can chat to someone there about their job. Similarly, you could write to a pharmaceutical company, maybe consider if you are allowed to choose a work-experience week, pick such a company to go to (or museum of course).
I think A levels is the easier choice in a way as you should be able to combine History alongside your Chemistry etc. This should mean you really have the next 3 years before any final choice has to be made.
Good luck.Need some advice on where my life's heading.?
You have your own solution to what you want to do. If you are interested in chemistry and does not involve too much effort on your part then you are natural. Stick to the subject that you enjoy doing most, also do some voluntary work so that you can decided on what you really want to do with your life. You won't know until you tried.
It's much easier to get a good job in pharmacy than in history. I took my undergraduate major in history and then went to law school, practiced law, retired early and went back and attended more history classes. In the meantime I read for pleasure all the history books I could. Now I read history books for pleasure several hours a day. I am in America, but I think at least part of what I've written applies to Britain or wherever you are,
Perhaps you should look into some kind of forensic science...there are certain forensic experts who specialise in archaeology...studying ancient bodies and relics...dating them etc. That way you'd be combining the things you love..chemistry and history...if I were you I would look to see what courses are on offer at various Universities and then see what the entry requirements are...I've no idea what those people are called exactly...but your teacher will.
Pharmaceutical studies is more practical and promising. Museums and History is phizzing out. Good Luck
I believe you should major in Pharmaceutical studies and minor in history, or you can do a double major in Pharmaceutical studies and history, but if you would like a job that pays well i would say major in Pharmaceutical studies because that would probably give you a better salary then a curator at a museum. thats just my advice though, or you can always major in photography if you would like and become a professional photographer. my favorite subject is history but I'm majoring in Pre-medicine so i know what you mean with the confusion. I also like Photography as well and i'm planning on possibly becoming a professional photographer after i'm done with medical school and all. I wish you the best in your future and i hope this helped out.
I would keep reading about any and all subjects that interest you. Make a list of potential careers and cross off any that no longer interest you as you read more about that career. You could write them in a Word document in order of interest. You can add and update the list as often as needed. If you love history, consider being a writer that specializes in history in general, or in specific historical events. You could also travel to the part of the world that you are writing about and take pictures that could be used in your book. You could also research the facts needed to create a historical war game..
