Life ruined by DMCA, need advice?

Today i got a letter from my ISP for bittorrent use, my mom was forced to return my modem. Is there any hope for me to get internet? not much competition around here.

I feel like circumstances were against me.

1.Charter is a monopoly in my area for internet, yet i assume they are losing money for this.

2. My friend got a letter earlier in the week, and i didn't believe him cause he lies to me a lot. He didn't get his internet taken away, he got a warning. This is unfair treatment. The circumstances were exactly the same.

3. DMCA violated my rights, they had no warrant to monitor my internet usage. DMCA is unconstitutional.

What can i do legally so i at least get my internet?Life ruined by DMCA, need advice?
Before answering your question, you need to answer some questions yourself:

1. What will you be using your Internet connection for? Chatting? E-mailing? Online games? Bittorrent?

2. How often are you on the Internet?

3. How much are you willing to spend?

You may have difficulty finding Internet service if you were busted using Bittorrent to download illegal content -- that's the ONLY way you would receive a DMCA complaint.

There are plenty of other ways to receive content such as movies and warez that is anonymous. Bittorrent is NOT anonymous -- even the latest versions that don't use a centralized server.

Satellite may be expensive and slow, but for a majority of high-speed Internet downloading needs, it's fine. It is NOT good for online gaming and Bittorrent because of its high latency.

You may be locked into a business-class Internet solution if you cannot get cable, dialup is too slow, and satellite is too slow and expensive. A T1 line isn't cheap, but will give you 1.5 megabits (not megabytes!) up and down. This is likely slower than your cable connection and will be a LOT more expensive, probably around $500 per month.

The DMCA is not a group that monitors your Internet use. It is a law called the ';Digital Millennium Copyright Act'; which allows your ISP to monitor your traffic for DMCA violations. The DMCA didn't bust you -- your own ISP did. You have no legal recourse.

Many ISPs don't want you using Bittorrent because it takes a LOT of bandwidth for the data transferred and the sheer number of packets transferred. It is in their best interests for you not to use Bittorrent, so that's probably why they were monitoring your connection.

Your note keeps saying ';this is unfair';. What were you Torrenting? Legal stuff such as Linux ISOs or illegal stuff such as movies or warez?

Here's a good website for everyone. :)
If all else fails, an internet cafe' ? Your school library? etc.
Got what you deserve IMO. Don't steal, that's what ';ruined'; your life, stealing and getting caught. You'd not be in this mess if you were an honest person.
';DMCA is unconstitutional';?

Actually, quite the contrary. You are using a private

service (i.e. not run by the state). They can monitor

and and all traffic using their hardware.

The clause in the US Constitution that you are

referring to (';illegal search and siezure';) only

refers to the STATE (i.e. the government). The

Supreme Court has stated that that ';search'; covers

monitoring communication which is why it is illegal

for the government (e.g. police) to monitor your

phone calls without a warrant.

If someone else monitors them, then they may or

may not be covered by other laws. If they are

monitoring their own equipment, then they are

not breaking the law even slightly.

They probably do not monitor as a regular part of business

but rather something happened (like a heavy amount of

downloading) that drew attention to you.

In any case, I think if you can show that you paid for

the stuff you stole, they'll probably give you access

back ... they don't want to lose customers any more

than you want to lose access.
I'm sorry for you. These are hard times for freedom.

Look at this site i hope it helps. these are good smart people.

good luck.
Get satellite internet. They are available EVERYWHERE, are SUPERFAST, and they don't care how much bandwidth you use.
I have no idea what you are talking about...are you in the correct country ??? if not, scroll down to the correct flag and ask your question there..
It should have been taken away if you were really pirating. You should also be put in jail, fined and banned from using the internet.
