I'm failing at life. Please give me advice?

I'm in college. It's a selective, private college. I can't keep up with the work. I have anxiety and I can't get all of this under control. I took a year off to work on anxiety, have seen psychologists on a regular basis, have tried different medications (the side effects of which have made me vow never to take another SSRI again), and am working with academic advisors and counselors now. I cannot handle this. I already dropped one course. I was such a good student in high school, but there isn't enough time and I've let myself get so far behind that even if I did nothing but study from this point on, I would probably make Cs at best, maybe a B in one class. If I leave here, I'm terrified about my future. I hate community colleges. I've audited courses at private colleges and community colleges; I've tried to go to a state university and dropped out in the first two weeks, tried to go to the selective college and dropped out in the first two weeks (only to return this year in an attempt to make it work). I don't know what to do. I don't want a transcript with a bad GPA following me around and preventing me from getting into good graduate schools or keeping me from transferring. If I leave now, I think I can get a Withdrawal on my transcript instead. I'm panicking, and I need some advice. I hate college immensely, but I want to make good money. Thanks.I'm failing at life. Please give me advice?
I believe your goals are poorly defined, and lack well planned steps to attain them. I believe your expectations are not realistic and do not address the reality of your present situation. I believe your stated dislikes and hates are really mental spurs to keep you from stepping back from the brink of the massive win-all lose-all scenario that you have constructed. You wish to fail spectacularly in order not to face finding out what mediocre level of success your abilities can bring you. You do this because you despise the path that you have limited your life to.

I believe your life also lacks balance. Your single-minded pursuit of poorly defined success has not allowed you to enjoy life, or even know what might bring you enjoyment. You have conscripted yourself to a process that you detest rather than explore what true path your life should take. You need to discover that ';not knowing'; is an acceptable state, as long as you seek the passion of your life. Immeshing yourself in all of this scholastic hell, because you want to make ';good money';, is not an acceptable solution, it is the opposite of seeking your path.

Ask yourself, ';If I woke up in a world with no humans, no school, no family, no worries, and an endless supply of dark chocolate, what would I most enjoy doing?';. Seek out those things that give you joy. Realize the pressures you feel, you have placed upon yourself. Free yourself from all people and attitudes that prevent you from following your passion.

In the mean time, clearly define your goals. Once your goals are defined, plan achievable steps to get to them. Be realistic about your capabilities when planning the steps to your goals. Be willing to reassess your goals and revise your steps if you realize they no longer hold value for you (quit school, for instance, if you realize ';good money'; is no longer a worthy goal). Make enjoying yourself one of the goals. Realize that trying to do your best, in front of the whole world, is more important than than reaching your goals. Don't be afraid or ashamed of failure. Use failures to make better steps to your goals. Failures are only the opening doors of opportunity on the path we are following.

Good luck.

EDIT: Again, your win-all lose-all failure scenarios are things that you purposely construct, because you choose to fail in the face of impossible odds rather than accept (what you consider to be) a lesser success won by your own abilities.

This is an immature course, and one that you will not grow out of until you seek a path of joy. Your joys will point to the path of your life's passion. Once you know where your life needs to go (following the passion) there won't be questions or misery, you'll know what you need to do. In any case you are surrounded by open doorways, you are not trapped in the single dead end that you describe.

Right now, there is an angry child inside of you that has nothing to do with school. Is there a history with your parents you need to rewrite before you can move beyond their influence? Make your ship seaworthy before you set sail.

Last thought... nine tenths of the world is poor. Stop making that the excuse for not trying. As one of the poor, I can tell you life is worth living. Stop avoiding your life.I'm failing at life. Please give me advice?

I am a career consultant and I agree with Sassy 25, please take her comments to heart.

I would also like to add the following:

You might want to look at different careers. You can do this by accessing the Occupational Outlook Handbook at the library or online. This book will give you the job descriptions for hundreds of professions and it will tell you the projected salaries, educational requirements and estimated future jobs available for the profession you choose.

I would also suggest that you visit a vocational college. A good example would be Pennsylvania College of Technology in Williamsport, PA. For instance, this school has a culinary school that runs an exceptional restaurant on site. Schools similar to this might be more interesting to you.

There are many jobs that you can do that do not require graduate school. So don't give up.

If you hate your current college, you need to make a change now.

One important suggestion I would like to make that will help you throughout your entire career and life would be this:

Take a course in public speaking. It will be hard at first, but the advantages of just this one skill will enhance your life immeasureably.

I speak from experience because I was also very shy and it changed my life.

You can also get private public speaking training that might be a little easier to start with.

The fact that you are asking this important life question tells me you are a very bright person. You just need a different career path. One that motiviates you to success.

So make some changes and go out and create the best career possible for you.

Good Luck!!!!
College is not for everyone nor does it make you a failure.

Withdraw, find a job and enroll in community college for just one or two courses. Take life a bit slower and stop attempting do conquer the world in one day

Your expertise might lie in a vocation such as plumbing or electrical.

Working retail is a lot better then giving yourself a nervous breakdown

An intelligent adult knows when to quit and that is you.
Your problems are complex and I'm sure you'd agree the Yahoo forum is not the best one to use to solve them. Sounds like you've tried a little bit of everything. Many people start out in the workforce and then ease themselves into college. That is one option among many. The main thing is, you seem to have convinced yourself that there is no way out of your dilemma, and this is not true. College or no college, you can be successful in life. Try the psychologists again! You need to feel good about yourself and not stressed about every choice you make.
